Ways to Pay Off Your Debt Efficiently

With the increase in price after GST implementation together with the currency depreciation, cost of living for Malaysians are getting more challenging especially for those young generation. As a result, young teenagers might use their credit cards more often or not even have enough money to pay off their bills such as cars or housing payment.

Here we would like to show you the ways to pay off your debt efficiently.

  1. Know where you spend your money

After you got your salary, you should always do a tracking record of all your daily expenditures. Identify all the fixed costs first, e.g. rental, public transport, petrol, etc. Then, record down where exactly you spend your money for daily. Yes, include even a RM 1.30 newspaper or RM 5 coffee. With the records, you are able to understand where do you spend most of your money on besides the fixed expenditures. By doing so, you should then try to reduce that unnecessary portion so that you have additional money for those other debts.

  2. Lower the fixed expenses

Try to lower down your fixed expenses slowly from time to time. For instance, you can find a cheaper place to stay if you are renting a room. Or, you can take initiatives to save electricity or water to reduce the amount paid for your housing bills.  With lesser fixed expenses, you are more likely to have more money available.

  3. Use your credit card wisely

You need to understand that credit card is only for you to delay the payment itself, and you still have to pay it at the end of the deadline. Hence, make sure you don't overspend using your credit card buying unnecessary stuff such as concert tickets or cars when your budget is tight during that time.

  4. Sell your lower yielding investment

In the case of urgency, you might want to start selling off your investments that are only yielding a relatively lower investment return. For example, if your investment only yields 5% but you are paying for your debt of 10% interest rate, then it is a better choice to sell those investments to pay off your debts instead.

  5. Definitely say no to procrastination

Make sure you pay off your debt based on the due dates. Do not delay and pass the due dates and end up paying more interests. Get your payment due dates written on your notebooks or set as a reminder on your phones. You don't want to use your hard earned salary to pay for those incurring higher interest which you are not supposed to pay in the first place.

Unless it is really necessary, try not to take out your own savings to pay off the debts. You might need the savings for other more important things. Hence, the best way to pay off your current debts is to stop incurring more debts and pay off your debt efficiently on time.

Characteristics of Successful People

Ever wonder how a person can be successful even he or she is overwhelmed with the stress, workload or commitment in life? Everyone of us wants to be successful in life, but sometimes there are always certain things that are wasting our time and holding us back from reaching our full potential. This makes the successful people different from the others. Let's investigate the characteristics of successful people to help us to become successful.

  1. Successful people do not put themselves too much on social media

Facebook, Instagram or Twitter are the among social media that in fact use up most of our time. Checking for notifications, scrolling through the pictures or videos, reading updates from friends, you wouldn't realize time flies by hours once you have started them. They are so addicted that you just can't control yourself.

So, successful people are usually those who are not that into these social media. And even they are, they set the time limit for this social media. They might even only get into it after completing their works. They generally use it as rewards.

  2. Successful people have a plan for the day

Successful people appreciate the day from the morning till the end. They do not try to do something without a reason. In order to do that, they usually have a simple plan for the day so that they know what to expect for the day. This makes them more effective in doing works/tasks compared to those without a plan.

Hence, what can we do is to list down all the tasks that you are planning to do for the days according to priority. Then, complete them one by one and cross off them from the list.

  3. Successful people do not hang out with negative people

It is said that you are the average of the five people that you spend most of your time with. So if you want to be successful, you are advised to mingle with those successful people. Be sure you eliminate negative and toxic energy around you. Focus on the things you want to accomplish and do not worry about the things that you can't control.

  4. Successful people learn from the mistakes

Successful people are not afraid of any failures at all. They know that failures or mistakes are just the stepping stones to their success. So, they learn and grow from the mistakes instead, and becoming a better person. Let's focus on what you have learned from the mistakes and design a strategy to move forward.
  5. Successful people do not forget about themselves

We are always busy with our works and we don't get enough sleep or exercise. But for the long term efficiency and happiness, we should not forget and put ourselves first on the priority list.

How? It is simple. We have to at least put something that we really enjoy into our daily activities; it can be as simple as reading a favourite book, meditating or jogging. Do what makes you feel relaxed and happy as a rewards for the special you.
After knowing the unique characteristics of successful people, it is now the time for us to change, not drastically, but at least gradually to remove those habits that are not quite healthy. When we are more efficient, works/tasks can be done quicker, less stress we will have and thus leading ourselves to the road of success.

Apple to Allow Customers to Trade in Broken iPhone for New One

As you might know, Apple has been running iPhone trade-in program for some time which allows iPhone users to trade in their old iPhone to receive a gift card in return. The gift card will then be used to cover part of your expense in buying a new iPhone. However, currently, Apple still does not accept broken iPhone, eg. with a cracked screen, camera and broken buttons under the current trade-in program.

But, wait, this might not be the case for much longer. According to 9to5 Mac, Apple is going to launch a new broken iPhone upgrade program which now allows customers to be able to trade in their iPhone even with damaged screen, malfunctioned camera, and broken buttons.

[Tip 1]: This launching program only accept iPhones from 5s.

However, according to the report, the damage must be "within reason", so you might be still out of luck depending on how Apple evaluates the phones. Customers can expect to trade in iPhone 5s for USD 50 (~RM 206), iPhone 6 for USD 200 (~RM 824) and iPhone 6s for USD 250 (~RM 1030). According to Apple, they hope the leniency in trading in phones can encourage customers to stay loyal to the company by taking advantage of it.

[Tip 2]: The trade-in values might go up depending on the storage of your phones as well as the level of damage of you phones.

Another new service is coming to Apple Store will be the availability of free screen protector installations. It will be charged but you can get them installed in the Store using their new screen protector installation machines. Previously, Apple Stores were told not to install screen protector on behalf of customers as when it does not go as planned, customers tend to ask for a replacement or refund. However, with this new machine launched, Apple will provide a free replacement and attempt it again if the protector is not installed successfully.

Here is a short video that shows how the machine works. Certainly, you don't have to remember the steps as it will be all done the Apple Store employees. Cheers.

[Tip 3]: Simply click here if you would like to view the video on YouTube.

How to Maintain Employees' Contribution Rate at 11%

As you might have known, our prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently announced Malaysian employees will be contributing 3% less for their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) every month for two years when he unveiled the revised Budget 2016.

[Tip 1]: The reduction in employees' contribution rate (from 11% to 8%) will be effective from March 2016.

While there is a slight excitement as monthly net income is slightly higher now, this also means our retirement fund is kept lesser than last time where we have to contribute 11% of the salary to the retirement fund. Hence, it is debatable and employees start thinking if this is a good strategy.

Nonetheless, employees will now have the option of maintaining their contribution rate to EPF at 11% by following the simple steps below.

How to maintain your employees' contribution rate at 11%

  1. Click here to download the application form.

  2. Write down your details including your EPF no, IC number, Name and Signature under Section B (Maklumat Ahli/Pekerja)
  3. Pass that to your employer and you are done.
You can actually see that under Section B where you have 15 rows to fill up employees' names. This is saying if you have other colleagues that wish to maintain the contribution rate, you all can just fill up once in this form and pass to your employer rather than doing it separately/individually. Employers will then forward it to the nearest EPF branch.

[Tip 2]: Employers' contribution rate of 12% (for those earning above RM 5,000) and 13% (for those earning below RM 5,000) would remain unchanged.

[Tip 3]: This reduction in employees' contribution rate will be imposed from March 2016 till December 2017.
